A diverse New England family history is the base of my objects. I pull influences from Boston and New Bedford, Massachusetts, as well as Southwestern New Hampshire. I take the inspiration and combine it with my admiration of early American furniture and folk art.

I have been creating two styles of work: furniture inspired by everyday objects, and furniture with carved and stained images. Inspiration for either style happens by chance, so I can work on one of the styles until another inspiration strikes me. I am able to present a piece that is genuine to who I am.

My work is made of domestic hardwoods, (with the exception of wenge) with occasional metal accents. I am drawn to the coarse appearance of ash, which I bleach, pickle stain, and highlight with a transparent stain. I also include complementing woods, such as walnut and quarter-sawn white oak. The wood used in the object-inspired furniture is represented in its relatively pure state, only altered with natural oil finish, pickling stain, and minimal paint.

I welcome the opportunity to take on commisions. Please inquire.
